Cape Town: Day 2 PM- Birds of Africa

If you keep up with this blog, then you know how much I love birds. I love to draw them, paint them, sew them or just look at them. On the second day of our trip to Africa I really got to experience the native birds...maybe a little more than I wanted to. At the end of our tour of the peninsula, our guide stopped at a penguin viewing area. We were able to get out and get super close to these fun animals. Here is one penguin who wasn't too happy about us getting too close to her eggs.

dsc03227This little guy was camera shy and kept turning his head away from us. Finally he gave us a little profile action.

dsc03233Normer liked the penguins too.

After our great tour we were dropped off back at our hotel and we took a nice long afternoon nap. We were pretty jet lagged by this point. We were so tired that we didn't even eat lunch. When we woke up 4 hours later we decided we should got out and find something quick to eat. We ended up going to McDonald's. Most of the time McDonalds' in other countries are way better than here in the states. However, this wasn't the case in South Africa. Oh well. Here are a few shots of our walk around the downtown area.

dsc03237I loved how you could see the mountains from pretty much anywhere in town.
dsc03241Oh yes, isn't this post supposed to be about birds? As we were walking around this fountain, I realized that there were a lot of birds flying around. I even thought about how I had never been pooped on by a bird before.
dsc03239Then we crossed the street and walked around in a little market. As we were leaving the market, I felt something wet hit my head. At first I thought someone had thrown a spit ball at me. But then with horror in my eyes, I realized what it was. The bird poop hit me in the head then ricocheted and hit Normer on the sleeve. I was so disgusted. Thankfully we were only a few blocks away from our hotel, so we made a beeline for it and I got in the shower immediately. Ugh. I guess this is what I get for liking birds so much.
dsc03243I bet those South Africans had a good laugh at the silly American who was pooped on. Hardy har har.
